Have you ever heard of work place incidents as a results of mis-interpretation of gas cylinder color codes?
Yes, a lot of it have happened. Take for example, the color codes of some common gases use in the fabrication workshop;
1. Oxygen cylinder: Blue & White colors
2. Acetylene cylinder: Ox-blood color
3. Argon cylinder: Ash/blue color
4. Propane cylinder: Orange color
A welder who is only conversant with the ash color of Argon gas cylinder may take a blue gas cylinder for Oxygen without knowing that Argon gas can be transported in both ash and complete blue cylinders.
Mis-intepretation of gas cylinder color codes is mainly as a result of different organization/country standards for gas bottle color codes.
In as much as personnel need to be inducted on the different colors codes wherever they may find themselves, there should be a standard code accepted internationally.
Please your contributions are highly welcome....
